Program Description: |
The Colorado BLM National Fire Plan website lists its many accomplishments. Some of the general accomplishments include:
- Completed 46 hazardous fuels reduction projects on 18,078 acres.
- Distributed $550,000 in assistance funding to Rural Fire Departments for personal protective equipment, communications equipment, hand tools, and training.
- Completed 44 risk assessments for Wildland Urban Interface Areas (WUI) through community partnerships.
- Developed one mitigation plan for WUI.
- Completed three Fire for Resource Benefit fires on a total of 3,507 acres involving local residents, volunteer fire departments and other cooperating entities.
Colorado BLM has granted $140,000 towards the development of county fire management plans and developed Wildfire Hazard Assessment and Wildfire Rating maps in addition to participating in the Fire Education Public Communication Campaign. The Colorado BLM has made great strides in the areas of partnerships, education, mitigation and outreach -- developing and presenting school programs, providing $70,000 to the Colorado Wildfire Academy, and organizing and facilitating public meeting in cooperation with other organizations.
