|
State: |

|
Program Description: |
An amendment to the Fire District Standards was passed in September 2001 by the Central Yavapai Fire District adopting Appendix IIA of the 1997 Uniform Fire Code to assist in controlling the accumulation of hazardous fuels around structures and along roadways in new developments. Sections 16 and 17 of Appendix IIA address the clearance of brush and vegetative growth from structures (16) and roads (17). It also requires fuel treatments to be conducted by the developers to create fuel breaks and the establishment of subdivision covenants requiring the creation and maintenance of defensible space by property owners. The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 299 "Standard of Protection of Life and Property from Wildfire" is also an accepted standard of the Central Yavapai Fire District and is utilized in Appendix IIA.
The Fire Chief or his designate is responsible for enforcement and may issue citations for violations.
Primary Standards include:
- Maintain effective fuel breaks with 30 feet of structures and additional fire protection from 30 to 100 feet when required by the fire department due to extra-hazardous conditions.
- Remove tree limbs within 10 feet of chimney openings.
- Maintain trees adjacent to or overhanging a structure free of deadwood.
- Maintain roofs free of litter and dead vegetation.
- Maintain a ten foot clearance free of combustible material along private roads and highways.
