Title: BLM Colorado -- Fire Program -- Hazardous Fuels Mitigation Projects
Type: Fuelbreaks
Education
Jurisdiction: State
State: Colorado
Program Description: The Colorado BLM has dealt with the growing threat of wildland fires through reducing the buildup of hazardous fuels. Colorado BLM reduced hazardous fuels on 18,078 acres in 2001 with 70 percent of treated acres near communities and subdivisions. Hazardous fuels reduction is achieved through prescribed fire, mechanical and other treatment. Colorado BLM will continue the tradition of fuel reduction and approximates for 2002 to treat 40,000 more acres of hazardous fuels (18,000 of these acres are near communities and subdivisions -- or in the Wildland Urban Interface). Accomplishment in target areas will depend on a variety of factors including drought, fire bans, smoke restrictions, fire conditions, and local community interest and involvement. Selection of future projects will result from collaboration and cooperation with other agencies, landowners, and the public.

Please view these two website, the first shows a map of the FY 2003 BLM Hazardous Fuels Mitigation Projects, and the other web site gives information on BLM Colorado-National Fire Plan.
