programs that seek to reduce the risk of loss of life and property through
the reduction of hazardous fuels on private lands. If

The Summit County Development Code does not allow new development in areas subject to a variety of natural hazards including wildfire, unless the risk may be eliminated or mitigated. In some cases, specific mitigation measures may be required.
Wildfire Risk Mitigation
In cases where CSFS has determined that the Wildfire Hazard Risk Rating is "High", landowners and builders work with the Lake Dillon Fire-Rescue Wildfire Mitigation Officer to mitigate the wildfire risk. 8101.02 Areas Subject to Environmental Hazard
Lots proposed for development shall not be located in areas subject to avalanches, landslides, rockfalls, mudflows, unstable slopes or soil or wildfire unless these hazards are eliminated or mitigated. If hazards cannot be mitigated, then affected areas shall be placed in lots where development is prohibited.
8103.01 Design Criteria -- Forest Management
1. Implementation of program: Forest management programs and other measures to reduce fire hazard may be required for subdivisions in areas rated as having moderate or severe fire hazard by the Colorado State Forest Service or where the local fire district identifies a specific fire danger that the Board of County Commissioners deem significant.
