Program Description: |
The Flagstaff Fire Department plans, coordinates, and conducts forest stewardship projects on sites and properties both within the city and contract fire suppression areas outside the city. In addition, the Fire Department contracts to conduct such activities on lands outside the city, and cooperates with various other agencies on their projects.
The Fire Department conducts these activities under the authority of the Uniform Fire Code, the City's Land Development Code, and various operating procedures, all guided by the mission to Protect Community Values At Risk.
Within the City, all new developments are required to implement a hazard-fuel reduction project prior to combustible building material being allowed on-site.
The Fire Department provides various services to most residents free-of-charge. These include: planning, marking, coordination with a tree-service vendor (cutting), and both pile and broadcast burning. In some cases, such as schools, churches, or other community assets, the Fire Department will do the cutting as well.
